How to boost your immunity

1. In Biology, Immunity is the balanced state of multicellular organisms having adequate biological defences to fight infection, disease, or other unwanted biological invasion, while having adequate tolerance to avoid allergy, and autoimmune diseases. In simple words it is the ability to stay healthy even after you come in contact with infections or viruses. It is quiet easy to boost our immune system but most of us do not give due attention to this aspect. Let us guide you towards some simple steps which can enhance your Immunity.

(a) Ensure Eight Hours of Quality Sleep. When you sleep, your body heals and regenerates itself. It is also the time when it produces key immune cells like cytokines, T cells and interleukin 12. Hence we must allow our body to replenish itself. Sleep deprivation elevates cortisol levels, which is not good for the immune functions.

(b) Exercise Regularly. Regular exercise lowers your risk of developing chronic diseases. Exercise increases the release of endorphins, making it an excellent way of controlling stress. Stress is not good for the immune system and hence one must exercise daily. We at AnubuthiYog assist you to have a fit body with strong levels of immunity.

(c) Avoid Stress. Cortisol is produced by the body whenever it experiences stress. It helps the body to stop reacting till the time the event causing stress is over. But over prolonged periods of stress the immune system stops responding to Cortisol. Hence it is essential that we avoid stress at all costs. (d) Eat Healthy. Fruits and vegetables which provide nutrients like beta-carotene, vitamin C, and vitamin E help to boost the immune function. Hence eat more of Citrus fruits, apples, onions, carrots, spinach and green vegetables. Garlic and Chicken soup are also good constituents of your diet.

(f) Stay Hydrated.  Staying hydrated helps your body to naturally eliminate toxins and other bacteria that may cause illness. Drink eight glasses of water every day.

(g) Wash your hands. Your immunity may be at a high, but why should you test it. With germs in abundance, we must wash our hands at regular intervals especially after we return from a public place. Aim is to kill the bacteria and virus which cause infection. 20 seconds of hand wash with soap is all it takes to keep you healthy.

1. Ever felt the need to strengthen your Respiratory System more than what you felt during the onset of Corona Virus? Better late than never. On scrutiny of various blogs on the subject we found that primary attention is paid towards suggesting impractical solutions such as, avoid exposure to pollutants. Now how can someone residing in a city like Delhi achieve this? So let us offer you some doable advice to you to strengthen your Respiratory System

(a) Exercise for 20 minutes to increase your Breathing Rate. Aerobic exercises that increase your breathing rate are a good methodology.  When your body needs more oxygen to fuel your muscles, this increases the pace of breathing. You breathe at a pace of about 15 breaths every minute but during exercise it increases to 40 to 60 breaths every minute. This is an ideal workout for your lungs. Join our sessions and we will help you strengthen your lungs.

(b) Deep Breathe for 10 minutes. When you breathe in count from 1 to 4 and when you breathe out count from 1 to 8. Try to hold the capacity of air in your lungs. These simple steps will help increase the efficiency of your lungs. The diaphragm must expand and contract to the maximum during this exercise. The sessions with Anubhuti Yog will assist you in enhancing the efficiency of your lungs.

(c) Watch your Posture. Lungs are akin to balloons. They will adapt to the space body allows them. Hence try ensuring that you sit straight. A few times a day sit on a chair, lean back a little and try to inflate your chest. Make room for your lungs to operate. Try not gaining weight and if you are a few pounds extra, try losing them at the earliest. Our sessions will help you improve your posture.

(d) Laugh hard twice a day. Laughing is a great exercise to increase your lung capacity and work the abdominal muscles. It clears out the lungs by forcing out the stale air. Thus laugh out loud.

(d) Ensure a healthy diet. Diet rich in antioxidants, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Beta-Carotene and Omega 3 Fatty acids is ideal for the lungs. Apples, Walnuts, Ginger, Garlic & Turmeric must be part of a healthy diet. If you are a non-vegetarian then try consuming more fish. Consume at least 6 litres of water every day.

2. Father of Modern Yoga, Krishnamacharya aptly describes “Inhale, and God approaches you. Hold the inhalation, and God remains with you. Exhale, and you approach God. Hold the exhalation, and surrender to God.” Even outside the realm of Yoga, Breathing has always been reasoned as the source of higher bliss. To quote Alexander Lowen, American Physician and Psychotherapist “We live in an ocean of air like fish in a body of water. By our breathing we are attuned to our atmosphere. If we inhibit our breathing we isolate ourselves from the medium in which we exist. 1. Ever thought of why we propagate doing Yoga from the comfortable environment of your home? Let us share some light on the topic. Yoga has been around since the Indus Valley Civilisation or 3000 BCE . It is one of the six ‘Astikas’ or Schools of Hindu Philosophical Traditions. It is mentioned in the Rig Veda and also finds mention in the Upnishadas. We generally use the term ‘Yoga’ nowadays for Hath Yoga or ‘Yoga as an exercise’.  A lot of disciples approach us to ask for the best environment to practice Yoga. We sincerely believe that your home is the best space to practice Yoga. We base our opinion on certain advantages

(a) Solitude: Yoga is as much an interaction with the mind as it is with the body. Only when you are alone you are actually able to connect with your soul. You are able to practice detachment and detachment causes the growth of one’s inner self. Try a session of Yoga with us in the environs of your home with no one to disturb you and you will experience what I am trying to convey.

(b) Its all about you: While yoga is a deeply personal practice but when we meet people in a class we try to connect with them. It is ingrained in our sub conscious mind to share experiences. But when you are alone, it’s all about you. All your energies are concentrated entirely towards you. Experience this Bliss.

(c) It develops self-awareness: Focusing on you, you start to expand your self-awareness. You start acknowledging the parts where you are holding tension in your body. You start becoming aware of how you breathe or how your mind works.

(d) You can choose your own timings: Every body is unique. Only you can judge what suits you the best, what timings are the most comfortable for you or how long do you want to continue. Practicing Yoga from your home allows you this flexibility.

(e) You can choose what you wear: When you practice Yoga with others, subconsciously you are concerned with what you wear. The social pressure of looking immaculate takes over. But in the confines of your home you can wear what you are comfortable in.

2. As if these reasons were not enough, God sent Covid-19 to convince us that solitude is essential for the inner growth. Social Distancing is going to be the norm in post Corona era. It will be advised to decreases your social exposure to bare minimum in the coming years. Hence one needs to embrace the concept of “Solo-Yoga”.
